Apple has announced that pre-orders have gone live for the iPhone 4S 7 days ahead of the 14 October release date in the UK.?

CEATEC 2011: Windows not included

Over in Japan at CEATEC, Fujitsu was showing off the K supercomputer, the fastest ranked computer in in the world.
Back in June, the Fujitsu K dethroned China’s Tianhe-1A machine to take top spot. It is, in fact, more powerful than the rest of the top 5 put together.
It packs an incredible 672 racks with a whopping 68,544 CPUs making it capable of a benchmark performance of 8.162 petaflops, which is a quadrillion floating-point operations per second. Its aim to to hit 10 petaflops next year.

CEATEC 2011: Wacky phone accessories on show

As well as showing off its super-fast battery charging system, Japanese mobile carrier DoCoMo also used CEATEC 2011 as a launch pad for its range of three smartphone smart jackets.
And when we say smart, we really mean quirky. And when we say quirky, we actually mean pointless.
Maybe that’s a bit harsh as we’re sure there are plenty of people out there who are going to want to measure their body mass index and muscle ratio using a phone case, right?

1-2 weeks

Apple may have run out of its day one pre-order stock of the iPhone 4S after its online store availability changed from Delivered by 14 October to 1 – 2 weeks.
It means that if you order an iPhone 4S direct from Apple chances are you won’t be getting the phone until the 21 October at the earliest.
The news however is unlikely to stop Apple having plenty of stock in its many stores around the UK.
Apple likes to ensure those keen to queue are rewarded with the latest and greatest …

One-click, not reward scheme

Starbucks is to make it easier for its coffee drinking customers to use Wi-Fi in the company’s stores in the UK.
Customers with Wi-Fi enabled laptops, tablets and mobile phones now have unlimited Internet access to surf the Web and connect with social networks at over 650 company-owned stores across the country.
The move means that customers no longer have to be members of the Starbucks Rewards programme to access free Wi-Fi, and is a direct response to feedback from those who have asked for a simplified service.??
