NEWS: 60 per cent of Facebook users consider quitting
Concerns continue to grow over controversial ‘opt-out’ feature
As pressure mounts on Facebook over its privacy settings, the news that 60 per cent of respondents to a Sophos questionnaire were considering quitting the service wouldn’t have gone down to well with Mark Zuckerberg and the gang.
The survey, which was polled to 1,588 Facebook users, also found that 16% already had quit the social networking giant.
Facebook has come in for some fierce criticism lately about the way it handles its users data and how it shares that data with other businesses. Users are increasingly becoming fed up with the amount of privacy changes Facebook throws at them and the complexity of the ‘opt-out’ function.
Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos, said: “Most still don’t know how to set their Facebook privacy options safely, finding the whole system confusing.” Cluley stated that what was needed is a change in direction for Facebook – asking users to opt-in to sharing their data instead of having to choose to opt out.
Facebook is expected to make a big announcement some time soon regarding the concerns, we’ll let you know as soon as they do.
