Augmented reality and photography apps to benefit

Microsoft has added more tools for developers to get creative with the camera on a Windows Phone 7?smartphone at its MIX 11 event in Las Vegas this week.
Although the new developer tools, which come out in May, offer plenty more features besides, the one that is likely to get Augmented Reality fans and photographers getting excited is that developers will for the first time since the OS’s launch in October 2010 have access to the camera.

Winners of the Augmented Reality Application Developer Challenge

In October 2010 Qualcomm launched an Augmented Reality Application Developer Challenge that challenged developers to see what AR apps they could make by the beginning of 2011 using the company’s new AR SDK.
From the pool of submitted applications, three winners were announced at Mobile World Congress 2011 to win cash prizes of $125,000 for first place, $50,000 for second place, and $25,000 for third place – a handsome purse.
